Longscale was set up with the goal of helping large enterprises reap the cost and flexibility benefits of cloud computing by addressing some of specific barriers to adoption faced only by very large organisations. We recognised early on that while the capacity on demand provided by public clouds was a strong motivator for adoption, it was not feasible for these large organisations to simply swipe a credit card and acquire capacity without the appropriate checks and balances being first put in place. At the same time, we recognised that traditional IT vendors and consultants have a strong vested interest in maintaining the status quo, selling more hardware within corporate IT in order for them to maximise their own return on investments in legacy technologies and skills. Some even re-branded existing virtual machine management technology as “Private Clouds”. Our solution was to put together a team of experienced professionals and create a new type of organisation; one that was familiar with existing Enterprise Architecture concepts and large organisational IT issues, but also trained and motivated to drive the broad adoption of public cloud computing within large organisations. Longscale takes the rigor; process, systems and tools applied to the development and deployment of enterprise class applications within the corporate firewall and adapt those approaches to cloud application development and deployment. These approaches are captured in the longscale products, solutions and services and are available to customers around the world. Longscale partners with major public cloud computing companies such as Microsoft and Amazon to deliver on this vision.
